傷を隠すのではなく、美へと変える。壊れて終わるのではなく、もう一度命を吹き込む。 日本の伝統工芸である金継ぎと漆器には、そうした「再生」の哲学が息づいています。 本展では、「金継ぎと漆」をテーマに、日本ならではの修復と継承の姿を、現代と伝統の両面からご紹介します。
1813年創業の老舗〈輪島屋善仁〉による漆器や、福井県鯖江市で三代にわたり漆工芸を続けてきた〈山久漆工〉の現代作品を通じて、日本を代表する漆器産地「輪島」と「越前」のものづくりをご覧いただきます。
2024年1月に発生した能登半島地震では、輪島塗の工房や職人たちが甚大な被害を受けました。これを受け、福井県の越前漆器協同組合では、道具や作業場の貸し出し、義援金の寄付などを通じて輪島の職人たちを支援しています。本展では、こうした産地間の連携にも触れつつ、それぞれの漆文化の魅力をご紹介します。
本展では、輪島屋善仁による重箱などの伝統的な漆器や、山久漆工による酒器やワイングラスなど現代的な漆器をはじめ、本格的な漆器の数々をご覧いただきます。さらに、壊れた器を新たな美に生まれ変わらせる、中野拓氏のモザイク金継ぎ作品、詩と墨で時の記憶を表現する書家北古味可葉氏、逆光の中に日常の一瞬を捉える写真家渡辺八郎氏の作品も併せて展示いたします。

Not to hide a scar, but to turn it into beauty. Not to discard the broken, but to breathe new life into it. The Japanese traditional crafts of kintsugi and urushi (lacquerware) embody a philosophy of renewal and continuity.
This exhibition, themed “Kintsugi and Urushi,” explores Japan’s unique approaches to restoration and cultural continuity—both in traditional and contemporary contexts.
On display will be lacquerware by Wajimaya Zenni, a renowned workshop founded in 1813 in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, and contemporary works by Yamakyu Japanware, a family-run lacquerware studio spanning three generations in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture. Together, these two makers represent the finest traditions of the Wajima and Echizen lacquer-producing regions.
In January 2024, the Noto Peninsula Earthquake caused devastating damage to many lacquerware studios and artisans in Wajima. In response, the Echizen Lacquerware Cooperative in Fukui extended support to their counterparts by offering tools, shared workspaces, and monetary donations. This exhibition also highlights these interregional efforts, emphasizing the spirit of collaboration and resilience within Japan’s lacquer communities.
The exhibition showcases traditional pieces such as jubako boxes by the long-established Wajimaya Zenni, as well as modern works by Yamakyu Japanware, including sake cups and wine glasses—all crafted with authentic Japanese lacquer techniques. Also featured are: – Mosaic Kintsugi works by artist Taku Nakano, transforming broken vessels into new beauty; Ink-and-poetry works by calligrapher Kayo Kitakomi, evoking time and memory; and, Backlit photography by Hachiro Watanabe, capturing the hidden beauty of everyday moments.
